Some spa experiences are just better than others.  Depending on the spa you go to, or the services you sign up for will defiantly set the mood for your day.  However, did you know there are things you can do on your end to have a genuinely rememberable spa day?  Below we discuss the steps you can take whether the spa day is just for yourself, a significant other, or a day with friends.

Book in Advance

Most good spas these days book up well in advance. While you may be able to walk into a spa and get services right away scheduling your treatment in advance is the best way to go.  Be sure to view all the spa services the spa has to offer.  You will find that planning out the specific type of services they provide is a great way to get what you want.  Most spas offer several types of facials and massages, and you don’t want to get stuck with a service you wouldn’t like.  So do your homework ahead of time.

Make a Day of It

One of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to fit a spa day in on a busy day.  Don’t do it.  Spa days should be an event and a break from your daily routine.  Make the day special by planning out the entire day around your spa visit.  If you are going with someone else, it might be good to go to brunch before the spa.  Don’t overeat but get some food and water in you to prepare for the day of pampering.   After your spa visit, it might be fun to go and hang out at a bar or restaurant before finishing up the day.

The Basics

Some basic guidelines might be unwritten rules or in some cases written rules from the spa.  These are usually things like a shower before coming in.  Turning off your cell phones once you get to the spa.  Many spas run like a well-oiled machine.  This means if you should show up at least ten minutes before your treatment to ensure you are ready to go on your scheduled time.  One thing you should never do is bring younger children.  The staff at the spas are not your babysitters and don’t have time to watch your kids while you are getting your massage. You can read some of the spa etiquette on the Viva Day Spa Website.

Add-on Services

Almost every spa has some sort of add-on services.  Don’t think of these as an upsell.  Of course, they are, but that doesn’t mean the additional services aren’t worth it.  Many times they are intended to enhance your spa experience and increase your happiness.  Some of the most common add-ons are manicures, pedicures, scalp treatments, or even additional massage time.
