With the arrival of chilling winters it brings with it several problems as in dry scalp causing dandruff which ultimately leads to hair fall. So curing dry scalp will help you in getting rid of dandruff, those white dead skin flakes from the top layer of your scalp.

It causes itching which is too irritating at times. Knowing how annoying dandruff could be it sometimes also drag you into embarrassing situations. Rebecca, after her presentation in her company, got accolades from her colleagues and just at that moment, her boss came to pat her back and then refrained seeing at the spread white powder on her shoulders. Firstly, you need to check out the causes due to which you are getting dandruff back.

  • It may be because of harsh shampoos which though clean your scalp for once, leaves it dry which is among the main reason of dandruff.
  • Although shampooing regularly is necessary too otherwise it may accumulate dead skin layer causing dandruff. So it’s better to choose your shampoo wisely. It would be preferable to use mild shampoos.
  • It is being found that people with dry skin are more susceptible to dandruff.
  • Not brushing hairs properly leaves the dead cells rest on your scalp.
  • Scalp needs to be nourished and regular oiling is required or else it will get dry.

Now that you know the reason for your dandruff let’s get onto the remedies for it.

1. Coconut oil and Camphor (Kapur)

The blend of coconut oil and Kapur is very effective in treating dandruff. Take an empty 100 ml bottle and fill it with coconut oil. Add about 6-7 pieces of Kapur from the stack or you can add raw camphor. Let the Kapur dissolve in the oil. It will take about half an hour. Now use this mixture to massage your scalp. You can keep it overnight or if not possible keep it for an hour before washing your hairs off with shampoo. It will moisturise as well as clean your scalp.

2. Soap nuts (Ritha)

The best use of Ritha one can think of is for hairs whether it be for hairfall, dandruff, lices or long shiny hair. Take 1 cup peels of Ritha and soak it overnight in water or take it in accordance with the length of your hair. Next day, boil it and filter the mixture .Use it just like shampoo. Keep it for 5-10 minutes then wash your hairs with luke warm water. You will soon get relief from itchy and dry scalp.


3. Coconut oil and Lemon juice

Mix of coconut oil and lemon juice is excellent for curing dandruff. Take ½ cup coconut oil and squeeze half lemon in it. Apply this mix on your scalp with finger tips and massage for about 10-15 minutes. Keep it for 1 hr and then wash off your hair with shampoo. It will clear your scalp removing the deposited white powder also bringing shine to your hair.

4. Yogurt and Black pepper powder

Yogurt has properties that helps vanishing dandruff, adding black pepper fastens the process. Add 1 tbsp black pepper powder in 1 cup Yogurt. Blend it well and apply on your scalp and hair properly. Keep it for 15-20 minutes or more rinse it off then. Use whenever you shampoo your hair. It also conditions you hair.


5. Azadirachta indica leaves (Neem leaves)

Neem leaves are very well known for its medicinal purposes. Boil 25-30 Neem leaves in water. Let the Neem water cool then strain the water. Use this water to rinse your hair after shampooing so that the effect lasts longer. Wash your hair every day with this water. Considering its antibacterial property, it is also helpful in finishing lices.

6. Lemon juice

  1. Lemon is considered for dandruff removal but due to its acidic property you can’t use it directly. Squeeze one lemon and dilute it with 500 ml water. Daily use of this lemonised water works effectively in clearing the dead skin cells from your scalp.
  2.  Squeeze one lemon in 2-3 tbsp of coconut oil. Apply this concoction and massage with your finger tips. Keep it for half an hour and then wash it off with shampoo. This will not only keep dandruff at bay but also make your hair silky and shiny.

7. Gooseberry (Amla)

Amla is also one of those options that helps in treating all sort of hair problems including dandruff. Cut two fresh Amlas and boil it in water. Let the water cool then grind it. Either you can extract the juice or use it directly to wash your hairs. Using it every day will get you relief soon.
