As the new year begins, you might be looking for a new way to get or stay in shape. If you haven’t looked into yoga, now’s the time!

No, yoga isn’t just for tree huggers. It’s for anyone who wants to be healthy.

Getting started with yoga might seem hard if you don’t know much about it. The great thing is, though, anyone can do yoga. Whether you’re over 50 or just out of high school, there are yoga moves to fit your lifestyle.

To help you get started, here are four beginner daily yoga exercises you can start trying today.

1. Mountain Pose

Let’s start with a super basic post. Place your ankles apart and stand up straight. Your arms should be held above you and behind your torso with your palms touching.

Raise your ankles them bring your heels back down. Focus on your balance while your heels are flat and while they’re lifted. As you lift your ankles, remember to inhale.

A yoga teacher can help you perfect your positioning.

2. Death Pose

It doesn’t get much easier than this unless you have a hard time relaxing. Simply lie on your mat with your back to the ground.

Keep your eyes closed and focus all your weight on the ground beneath you.

That’s it in terms of positioning. But you should also focus on observing the feeling of letting your weight go, breathing deeply, and being patient.

3. Pelvic Tilts

This yoga pose is meant to help release lower back pain. It’s a great one to have up your sleeve if you tend to get pain or stiffness in that area of your body.

Simply lie down with your feet flat against your mat or floor. Your arms should be placed on either side of you with palms facing down.

To perform this pose, simply tilt your pelvic area upward. Keep movements slow. Your bottom shouldn’t leave the floor.

4. Downward-Facing Dog

Our list wouldn’t be complete without this iconic yoga pose. To do it, start on your hands and knees.

Place your palms out in front of you against your mat. Then push your bottom up until your feet are flat and firmly planted on your mat. Your body should be in a triangle shape with the floor.

Hold this post for at least five deep breaths or pedal your legs to get a deeper stretch.
