The skin is the largest organ of our body. It is also the most visible organ, being the outer covering of our body. Keeping our skin healthy, especially our facial skin, is an essential aspect of our daily lives. We do a lot of measures to make our skin appear young and smooth, including the use of natural face oils. However, aside from using these products, there are other tips we can take note of that will also help in our skin care.

One thing that we cannot prevent is the natural aging of our facial skin. This is also known as “intrinsic aging.” It is natural for our skin to lose its natural oils over time. When this happens, our facial skin loses its youthful look. There is nothing we can do to prevent intrinsic aging since this is mainly dependent on our genes.

Another aging that our face and body skin undergo is called “extrinsic aging.” This is caused by the effects of the environment on our skin. We can slow the signs of extrinsic aging by doing the following practices.

Protect Your Skin from the Sun

Exposure to the sun is one main factor of extrinsic aging. Always use sunscreen whenever you are planning to spend the day under the sun. Protect your skin by seeking shade or covering up with clothing. If you are going to the beach, use a water-resistant, broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF rating of 30 or higher. Make sure to apply sunscreen to all exposed skin.

Avoid Getting a Tan

Since the sun is harmful to your skin, getting a tan will be an obvious mistake. The sun emits harmful UV rays that can prematurely age your skin and remove your natural face oils. Indoor tanning, such as the use of a tanning bed, also uses UV rays. If you need to have that ‘tan’ look, you can apply a self-tanner.

Avoid or Stop Smoking

Smoking speeds up skin aging. So if you are a smoker, stop smoking. Smoking causes the skin to wrinkle and produce a dull, washed-out complexion.

Avoid Drinking Alcohol

Drinking alcoholic beverages is also harmful to the skin. Alcohol dehydrates your skin and, in time, damages it making you look older than your age.

Eat a Well-Balanced Diet

It would help if you were careful about what you eat and how much you eat. Eating food containing lots of sugar and carbohydrates can cause your skin to age faster. On the other hand, eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables can restore your natural face oils and prevent the damages of premature skin aging.

Exercise Regularly

Exercising helps improve blood and oxygen circulation throughout your body. It also improves the immune system, which in turn may give your skin a more youth-full look.

Wash Your Face Regularly

Sweat can irritate your skin and in time, increase the premature aging process. So if you sweat a lot, it is best to wash your face with clean water regularly.

Stop Using Facial Care Products that Sting or Burn

There are a lot of facial care products out in the market that may cause a stinging or burning sensation on your skin. It would help if you prefer products like natural face oils instead of products with synthetic ingredients. When you find that a lot of skin products sting or burn your skin, you can consult your dermatologist to find out what products are suitable for your type of skin.

It is Never too Late

It is never too late to take care of your skin to lessen the signs of extrinsic premature skin aging. By protecting your skin from the sun and changing some of your lifestyle choices, you are on your way to getting back your youthful skin.
